New Tripawd Mom

So on February 26th my dog mama life changed forever. My sweet 8 year old Border Collie mix pup was diagnosed with cancer and had to have her right rear leg amputated. She was recovering nicely until she slipped and now she’s dealing with a minor tear in her CCL in her left rear leg.

This has been such a new learning experience for us. She is my whole world and now she is more special than ever. I am so proud of her she is such a trooper, she has now started physical therapy and hoping we can do all the things needed to make her life as normal as can be for a tripawd. Don’t know if she’ll ever get to run and play again due to her leg but going for walks would be a huge accomplishment. I know this is the right community for us looking forward to advice, ideas and people to bond with over our 3 legged wonder pets.Oreo

  2. Hi Oreo’s mom (what’s your name?)! I’m a relatively new tripawd mama, too. My 10-year old goldendoodle, Griffin, had his right forelimb amputated on April 2nd due to osteosarcoma. It sounds like Oreo was recovering nicely until the tear, but don’t give up on her running and playing again – I bet she will surprise you! Check out our blog, Griffin’s Journey, on Tripawds to see him playing fetch and running around. He thankfully isn’t dealing with any ligament issues, but he’s an older pup with a front leg amputation and is doing amazingly well. We are both sending hugs to you and Oreo! ~ Stacy

  3. We are so glad you found us, please don’t be a stranger and keep us posted on Oreo’s PT, we would love to hear more about the program you are working on. Get well soon Oreo!

  4. Awww….the picture of Oero is so sweet.
Bummer that the tear happened. We do see this happen because of the wear and tear on the three legs of a tripawd
Sounds like you have a plan of rest, some gentle therapies? Did the Rehab Specialist suggest a sleeve, or a brace? I think the “verdict” is still out as far as using them or not. May be worth asking about anyway.
Keep is posted and let us know how Oero is doing. She can, indeed, get stronger and definitely have some good walks, etc! Oreo now has her own Fan Club cheering for her!!
    Hugs

  5. Hi Stacy

My name is Keli and it’s nice to meet you. Ore had the exact same cancer as your pup. Nice to hear he is doing so well. Yes unfortunately her ligament issue put us behind a bit but she is doing better with therapy I have found the right Dr for her thankfully. I dint know if she will run again but whatever time I get with her I treasure. She is amazing therapy for me and has been such a joy for my parents during the stressful time. We look forward to hearing more on your pup as well, nice to know I have blessings to look forward to. Keli and Oreo

  6. Hi Jerry

I will gladly post updates to Oreos therapy. She is learning how to shift her weight more to her front legs, how to proper sit and working core exercise. Next week she starts swimming therapy as well. She is such a trooper and her therapy Dr loves her.She says she is improving weekly. Here is some pics of her doing cold laser therapy. She looks like Johnny Depp from Willie Wonka lol,
